Vision 2050: A Sustainable future for Cheshire West and Chester

This Vision for a Sustainable West Cheshire is intended to guide the Cheshire West and Chester Authority (CW&C) in taking decisions about the future of the area. It is centred on the premise that if we are to achieve a truly sustainable community by 2050 the direction of travel set now must be right.

The study’s executive summary ends with these two sentences: “We conclude from these reviews that the most alarmist of the peak-oil claims are likely false. Still, we see some convincing reasons to think that global oil production could peak within 20 years, with demand outstripping production indefinitely.”

Saving some of our civilization’s achievements for our successors is certainly something worth fighting for. The problem is that bequeathing them a hoard of textbooks written on acid-free paper won’t be of much use if they don’t understand them… as it is very likely to be the case.
