[In] much of the alternative/protest movement… we take up a position outside of mainstream culture, use language, dress codes, behaviour and forms of protest which at best bewilder and at worst enrage mainstream society, yet we expect them to see the error of their ways and the validity of ours and embark on a radical decarbonisation. What failed to come through in [these approaches] was any sense of humility, any sense that the answers might be found anywhere other than in their fondly held beliefs.

Shot in 13 countries over a four-year period, Oil Apocalypse Now? reveals the myths and conspiracy theories surrounding the future of our world’s oil supplies. It includes interviews with over 30 of the most influential people on both sides of the argument to examine if the oil age is coming to an end. The film will be shown on CBC (Canada) in September.

Ex-pat Steve holidays in England, only to find signs of the effects of peak oil everywhere. Over the period of two weeks a number of newspaper articles confirm that the perfect post-peak storm is brewing in this land, once a proud net exporter of oil.

The Post is to be congratulated for a tour d’horizone that touches most of the bases relevant to peak oil. They acknowledge the problem, use the words “peak oil,” discuss much of the evidence and cite the differences of opinion as to the imminence of a crippling problem. Reading between the lines, one can sense an editorial debate, for the obvious conclusion is one no reader wants to hear.
