Richard Heinberg (1950-2026) was one of the world’s foremost advocates for a shift away from our reliance on fossil fuels. He authored some of the seminal works on modern society’s energy and environmental sustainability crisis. His thinking and writing remain a cornerstone of Post Carbon Institute’s work.

In Memoriam: Recollections of Richard Heinberg
Richard Heinberg was a great sentinel, but he was never shrill. He had the intellectual and moral courage, underlain by common sense, to take radical stances. Anything but a technocrat, he always championed mutual aid and relocalization, never abandoning humanity. His death is a terrible loss.
