The word ‘changes’ in the above title will elicit a different response depending on your personality. For some this will be exciting and you will be reading this now to find out what’s new. For others there will be a certain dread, after all – if something is good then, why change it?
The truth is that, although EB still looks much the same as it ever has, it is changing all the time. It has to in order to stay relevant, interesting, and inspiring.
When EB began, nearly 10 years ago, the focus of the site was to act as a clearinghouse for news, research and analysis on peak oil. At the time peak oil rarely appeared in the mainstream press, so the aim was to make this important information available to the public.
Over the years EB has broadened its coverage to include other resource depletion, as well as related ecological, economic and societal issues. The implications of these issues are enormous and constitute the great challenge of our time. With this in mind we are finding that more and more we are focusing on articles and writing which describe, encourage or educate on meaningful responses to what we are facing – in essence, the task of building resilience.
We believe that bringing together the concepts and ideas behind community resilience building, alongside the best information on the issues which underpin it, is the priority for our current space and time. With all of this in mind…you really want to hear more about those changes don’t you!

What will change:
- In the summer of 2012 EnergyBulletin.net will become resilience.org.
- The site will have a new look – we’re retaining EB’s retro charm, but making the site more attractive and engaging to a new audience.
- We’re adding a rich Resources section – this will include reports and media content from Post Carbon Institute and our allies, along with resources related to the models featured in PCI’s Community Resilience Guide series of books. The Resources section will be a place for the thousands of organizations, groups, and individuals working on community resilience building to share their own resources. The team at resilience.org will feature ones that are particularly inspiring or useful, and we hope to conduct a series of webinars to explore some resources more fully.
- We’re adding a Community Groups section. Are you looking to start a currency, a local biodiversity group, a community energy company? Here is where you can add your group, see whether there are others in your area already working on the issue, or whether there is a group somewhere else which has already trodden this path and could help you.
- Author bio pages for regular contributors.
- New high level categories to make it easy to find what you’re looking for.
What will stay the same:
- Editorial stance and site values.
- A broad range of content including information, insightful analysis, different views, anger, empathy and inspiration.
- An uncluttered easy-to-read layout.
- Just looking for what EB has now? The homepage of resilience.org will serve you the same daily updated news content across a wide range of topics as EB does now.
- Just looking for Energy news? Just click on the Energy button and you will see all of our latest articles and posts on energy.
- Have favorite articles from EB linked to your site or bookmarked? Existing EB url links will map to the same article at resilience.org.
- Comments will remain in Disqus.
