Creating A Sustainable Future (CASF) is planning to establish a people-centered professional community for sustainable living. The community would be based around a progressive learning center.

CASF will be incorporated in 2005 and is looking for partners that share its vision and can help create a living model for a sustainable future.

The Cluster Creating A Sustainable Future (CASF) is desirous of establishing a sustainable village, provisionally named “The Cluster,” to enable a transition into the new century – a time dominated by violent climatic changes and Peak Oil.

CASF believes that the extraction of crude oil is peaking globally. Peak Oil would create unprecedented disruptions to the economy; transportation and food production would be among the first sectors to decline rapidly resulting in food shortages, widespread unemployment and social unrest. Increasing the use of other fossil fuels as compensation for oil shortages would only accelerate global warming and the cataclysmic climatic changes.

The Cluster would offer a new paradigm for sustainable living: use renewable energy (wind, solar and others, as available); establish a progressive learning center, Living University[TM], for the residents and articipants; produce food (chemical free diversified farming, horticulture, fish); create jobs, promote R&D for sustainable living, life sciences and benign technologies; recycle waste; provide some protection against the rising sea-levels.

The units would be built from emission-free, natural materials available locally. The Cluster would be designed aesthetically as a people-centered (as opposed to car-centered) professional community where residents can live and work locally, participate in production of own food and spend quality time with family and friends.

In its first phase of operation, the Cluster aims to reduce the residents’ per capita energy consumption by about 80 percent (cf., industrialized nations average), without compromising their standards of comfort.

Living University[TM] To develop the skills required for sustaining post-oil, post-industrial communities, the Cluster would establish Living University[TM], a progressive learning center for residents and visitors.

Living University[TM], a hands-on learning center, would concentrate on all aspects of sustainable life sciences and benign “one-stop” technologies. The curriculum includes (but not limited to):

1. Personal Skills 2. Creativity 3. Renewable Energy Sourcing 4. Agroecology and Food Production 5. Natural Economy 6. Community Planning 7. Learning: New Models 8. Recycling, Waste Management 9. Financial Independence/ Voluntary Simplicity 10. Sustainable Technologies 11. Restorative Business Management 12. Social Organization (Governance)

The Cluster would facilitate sustainable living in harmony with what is left of the life-support systems, and increase the survival odds against the looming cataclysmic climatic (and related) changes.

By virtues of its sustainability, self-sufficiency in food and power production cluster would provide a permanent home, job, lifelong security for the participants.

Think-thank In conjunction with the Cluster and Living University, CASF would establish a think tank that would be comprised of selected experts in all disciplines (active and retired) who could contribute to the overall success of the project.

The Youth Cluster would provide a unique opportunity for the youth to train in sustainable life skills and make a positive contribution to creating a sustainable future.
