Lawrence Messerman studied international relations and organizational theory before he received his calling as a ‘marakame' or healer and ritual leader in the Huichol tradition of Mexico. He is also Executive Director of Sacred Fire an international non-profit organization that provides opportunities for people to engage with Fire (the energy of heart) and discover a path of personal and societal healing, growth, and learning. Among its offerings are monthly community fires in Australia, Canada, Colombia, Ireland, Mexico, the U.K., and the U.S.
