In 2001, Foss moved her family from England to rural Ontario, in order to prepare her family for peak oil and economic uncertainty. Local Future nonprofit has published to YouTube the entire 40-minute presentation by Foss on her considerations for personal preparation, in advance of her keynote presentation at the International Conference on Sustainability, Transition and Culture Change: Vision, Action, Leadership.

Understanding of peak oil is greatly improved by a realistic understanding of money and debt. Dr. Steve Keen, University of Western Sydney, provides an overview of this understanding in his just published lecture on Debunking Economics. Dr. Keen returns to North America in November to share his insights and new research at the International Conference on Sustainability, Transition and Culture Change: Vision, Action and Leadership. Nicole Foss, a.k.a. Stoneleigh, of "The Automatic Earth" launches her modern day "Paul Revere" style tour in Michigan on September 10. Foss received rave reviews for her presentation at the Transition Towns UK conference, and recently appeared on the Financial Sense News Hour with Jim Puplava. Foss takes a "big picture" approach and describes peak oil in the context of the economic crisis, adding essential information to the understanding of the future.
