The Association for the Study of Peak Oil & Gas will host its 9th conference in April 2011 in Brussels, Belgium. There the latest knowledge on the occurrence and impact of a potential peak and decline of the world’s production of oil and gas will be shared. Next to this traditional topic the program focuses on impacts of expensive energy supplies on the macro-economy, agriculture, and European energy policy.
- Speakers who will present their views on fossil fuel depletion include Dr. Paul Stevens (Chatham House), Dr. Mert Bilgin (Bahçeşehir University), Dr. Jean-Pascal van Ypersele (University Leuven & Vice-Chair IPCC), Ir. Jean-Marie Bourdaire (advisor for Cheniere Energy), plus five more prominent energy experts.

The connecting thread of the ASPO9 conference will be European energy policy in the context of Peak Oil and expensive energy. Already today oil prices are approaching the 100 dollar per barrel barrier, just as we are slowly recovering from the economic crisis of 2008. The dimension of European Energy Policy is emphasized by an extra meeting at the European Parliament the 3 May. The ASPO conference will also be given a regional dimension owing to an extra event at the Walloon Parliament the 26 April, a well-suited location thanks to its awareness of the Peak Oil issue, notably via its Peak Oil Committee set up by vote the 16 July 2008. Each of these extra events has its separate program and can be attended free of charge. Pre-registration is required.
