Many folks in the U.S. and elsewhere feel confused or stunned by hyperpartisanship and the levels of discord that exist among people with different political leanings. Despite rising levels of political polarization, researchers and community groups are uncovering strategies and methods for fostering authentic interactions and teamwork among people with different backgrounds or views.

This live online discussion event on October 15, 2024 features Trisha Dehrone, a PhD candidate and NSF Fellow at the University of Massachusetts–Amherst. Trisha has designed and analyzed interventions that bridge group differences in divided societies and has evaluated interventions in the U.S., Rwanda, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Event participants worked with Trisha on bridging activities and to learn about examples of communities overcoming polarization through collaboration on resilience-building projects. We also examined how people navigate interactions with members of other groups and the factors that either facilitate or hinder authenticity, closeness, and empowerment during intergroup encounters.

The recording of this event and additional resources are only available to Resilience+ members.
