With the advice and blessings of Colin Campbell, Kjell Aleklett and other leaders of ASPO Europe, a bare-bones working committee has begun the task of organizing ASPO-USA as a non-profit, non-partisan, tax-exempt educational association to study, communicate, mitigate and otherwise respond to the impending Peak Oil phenomenon.
ASPO’S new website, at www.aspo-usa.com, presents the organization’s mission statement, a start-up working agenda, and details of a high-level world oil conference to be held in Denver, Colorado on November 10-11, 2005, to discuss the impacts of a peak and decline in petroleum production.
Denver World Oil Conference – Beyond Oil: Intelligent Response to Peak Oil Impacts … A Dialogue with the Experts (Please click www.aspo-usa.com for details on Conference Registration, Agenda, Speakers, and Sponsorship.)
The two-day forum is sponsored by ASPO-USA, the City and County of Denver, and the Community Office of Resource Efficiency (CORE.) Keynote speakers include Matt Simmons, author of Twilight in the Desert, a study of Saudi Arabia’s petroleum resources, and Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, (R-Md.; invited). Other participants will include Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper; Roger Bezdek, President MISI and co-author with Robert Hirsch of the recent DOE study on peak oil mitigation; Michael Ashar, Suncor-USA; Peter Dea, Western Gas Resources; Jeremy Gilbert, Chief Petroleum Engineer (ret.) with British Petroleum; oil industry analyst Henry Groppe; Chris Skrebowski, ed. Petroleum Review; and Tom Petrie of Petrie/Parkman. Special Honored Guests will include Stewart Udall, former Secretary of the Interior, and Professor Walter Youngquist, author of the classic GeoDestinies.
ASPO-USA hopes to provide technical support, working assistance, and organizational affiliation to other peak oil groups and energy reform advocates wherever possible. ASPO-USA expects to have a full board of directors, an advisory board, and specialized working committees in place by October, 2005.
We thank you in advance for your support, your input, and your participation.
