Waqas Alam Angaria is a Karachi-based reporter associated with Geo News, focusing on climate disasters, climate financing, human rights, heritage and public diplomacy. Originally from the coastal region of Balochistan, where the human rights movement against enforced disappearances is gaining momentum, he brings a unique perspective to his reporting. As one of the youngest reporters to witness firsthand the catastrophic floods in Sindh and Balochistan, Waqas extensively covered the disaster and its aftermath for over eight months. His reporting helped map affected areas in Balochistan, which were previously undocumented and inaccessible to other reporters, NGOs and INGOs. This documentation was crucial in facilitating the arrival of humanitarian aid, including food, shelter and medicine. A delegation from the United Nations, including Secretary-General António Guterres, visited Balochistan during the flood crisis, underscoring the global significance of the disaster. Waqas has also been actively involved in organizing various human rights and climate-related protests, including the Climate March, Students March and protests against enforced disappearances. His commitment to these causes reflects his dedication to amplifying marginalized voices and advocating for urgent action on pressing global issues. He holds a master’s degree in political science from Karachi University.
