Jackie Smith is a professor of sociology at the University of Pittsburgh and the editor of the Journal of World Systems Research. Her books include Social Movements in the World System: The Politics of Crisis and Transformation (with Dawn Wiest) and Social Movements for Global Democracy.

Human Rights from the Ground Up
The initiative to which I have dedicated my energies is the growing global “human rights cities” movement.
