Passive House: A Building Revolution

September 23, 2013

48% of all CO2 generated and energy consumed in the U.S. is from the construction and operation of buildings. Most climate scientists agree that CO2 emissions must be reduced 80% by 2050 to help stabilize the earth’s climate. Passive House is a new building standard for energy-efficiency that meets this reduction goal.

Passive House: A Building Revolution describes this building method and how it is possible to heat or cool buildings using much less energy than conventional contruction uses. It tells the story of America’s super insulated house movment of the 1970s, which led to the Passive House (Passivhaus) building method in Germany.

The film also introduces the importance of retrofitting the 116 million existing homes in the U.S. and showcases architects, builders, and homeowners as they share their experiences in building a new passive house or doing a deep-energy retrofit.
